Don’t be surprised; you were given the wrong intel. Caffeine is not unhealthy; it will add a few extra years to your life expectancy chart! Enjoy your coffee at all times. 

In the corporate world that we live in, there is only room for coffee and a ton of files to proofread. Please grab your hot chocolate, add a few marshmallows to enhance it and allow me to explain to you the benefits of drinking coffee. The World Economic Forum sides with me, and the research team loves coffee, too. One might drink Starbucks’s freshly brewed, fashionista-looking caffeine beverage, but the Filter coffee always beats the foreign brew. Coffee machines have made our lives easier and faster, depriving us of the traditional coffee filters to make the coffee decoction. Traditional coffee has a tench of belonging and comfort in the chaos of work-life balance. You do not need extravagant-looking coffee to stay healthy. A typical cup of filter coffee or black coffee will do. You can drink it out of the infamous ‘kulhad’. I can assure you that it tastes the best.

In a recent observational study published by the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology in September 2022, researchers discovered that individuals who consumed two to three cups of coffee daily had a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death than those who abstained from coffee. The study involved approximately 450,000 participants with an average age of 58, all of whom did not have pre-existing cardiovascular conditions or irregular heartbeats such as atrial fibrillation. Participants were asked to report their daily coffee consumption and preferences. The researchers classified the participants into different categories based on their coffee intake, ranging from zero to more than five cups per day.

After 12 years, the study found that coffee drinkers had lower incidences of irregular heartbeats, cardiovascular disease, heart-related deaths, and overall mortality than non-coffee drinkers. Among coffee consumers, those who consumed two to three cups per day had the lowest risk of developing cardiovascular disease and experiencing death. For irregular heartbeats, the lowest risk was observed among individuals who consumed four to five cups daily. The study revealed that all types of coffee were associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. Still, decaffeinated coffee did not demonstrate a similar association with a decreased risk of irregular heartbeats. While the exact connection between coffee and a healthy heart remains unproven, one plausible explanation could be the presence of polyphenols in coffee, which can potentially alleviate oxidative stress and inflammation.

Coffee may impact the development of cancer cells through different mechanisms. For instance, it can stimulate bile acids, which aid in faster digestion through the colon, potentially leading to lower exposure of colon tissue to carcinogens. The American Institute for Cancer Research suggests that “probable evidence” supports that drinking coffee can decrease the risk of endometrial and liver cancers. Coffee also potentially impacts skin, mouth, and throat cancers, although the evidence in these cases needs to be more conclusive. These findings contrast with earlier suggestions in the 1990s that linked coffee consumption to cancer development, which have since been debunked.

Regarding neurological health, several studies have found a correlation between caffeine consumption and a reduced risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. While the exact role of coffee in this protective effect is not yet fully understood, most researchers attribute it to the presence of caffeine. Evidence suggests that drinking at least two cups of coffee every day is associated with a lower risk of depression, as indicated by a meta-analysis commissioned by the US National Coffee Association. Other research suggests that constituents of coffee, such as caffeine, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid, and caffeic acid, could potentially impact the underlying mechanisms of depression.

The responsible drinking of coffee is highly appreciated. You can drink about 3 cups daily, but try to stay within that limit. Dopamine provides euphoria and pleasant feelings. It increases our chances of a healthy, long, and disease-free life.

Coffee is regarded as the best beverage because it consists of caffeine,  which stimulates, boosts the mood and increases the energy levels to work and function better. The caffeine in coffee works by increasing the levels of certain chemicals in the brain, such as dopamine, which can lead to feelings of happiness and euphoria. 

With this knowledge, enjoying your next cup of coffee can be even more satisfying, considering its potential benefits in reducing the risks of certain diseases. I will forever encourage you to make a cup of freshly brewed filter coffee, the new bon-appetite.
